2015 Grants Announcement

The LNTCFS is pleased to announce our decision to donate $ 40,000 for 2014/15 to be disbursed as follows:

  • $ 15,000 has been allocated to Barriere Secondary School (BSS) 2016 Graduates for student awards (scholarships and/or bursaries).  As with previous years, these awards will be administered through BSS.; and
  • $ 25,000 has been allocated for distribution through our grants program to local non-profit organizations. Click here for grant application forms and guidelines. All applications received by December 31, 2015 will be reviewed by the LNTCFS board members who will award the money to successful applicants.

Barriere Search & Rescue receives LNTCFS Grant

The LNTCFS is pleased to announce our decision to donate $ 55,000 to Barriere Search & Rescue (BSAR) towards construction of their new building, to be located next to the fire hall in Barriere.  The new building will act as a home based for the organization and provide a well needed location for equipment storage, training and communication.  On behalf of the LNTCFS Board of Directors, we wish them all the best in the successful completion of this project and thank-you for your valuable contributions to the Lower North Thompson Valley!

Annual General Meeting – October 22, 2015

Advance notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting of the Lower North Thompson Community Forest Society will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 7:00 pm at the North Thompson Volunteer Centre located at 4936 Barriere Town Road (Barriere Ridge Building), at which time it is intended that Directors be elected for the ensuing year. As per the by-laws of the Society:

A member seeking to stand for election as a Director on the Board of the Society must meet the following criteria:

  1. A person must be a member in good standing.
  2. A person must submit a written nomination, signed by two other members in good standing.
  3. A person has not been convicted of an indictable criminal offence unless they have obtained a pardon.
  4. A person has agreed, in writing, to abide by the Constitution and Bylaws & Declaration of Commitment.
  5. A person has completed a written Personal Disclosure of potential conflict of interest, with explanation of how it may be a conflict.

Persons interested in standing for election shall submit a resume by October 16, 2015 to:

2015 Job Creation Program – Press Release

Check out the press release for our latest Job Creation Project, the North Thompson Forestry, Range, and Trails Project.  This project is now underway and we are looking for more participants!!  To be eligible, you must be currently on EI or have received EI in the past 3 years or maternity EI in the past 5 years, and must be physically fit and able to walk long distances.  For more information, contact the Barriere Employment Services Centre at (250) 672-0036.
