Kamloops-North Thompson MLA Terry Lake announced on June 12, 2015 that the B.C. government is contributing $40,000 toward the cost of a new water park in Barriere. “Combined with the generosity of the Lower North Thompson Community Forest Society (of $150,000) and the fundraising efforts of the community at large, we can now move forward with a grant application that requires matching funds – something we could not have done without Minister Lake’s efforts to procure today’s contribution from the province,” Mayor Virginia Smith said.

Members of the Barriere Secondary School graduating class of 2015 have been awarded a total of $16,000 in the form of bursaries and scholarships on behalf of LNTCFS.

The new and improved grandstand at the North Thompson Fall Fair grounds was unveiled on May 23. The brand new roof and renovations were facilitated by a generous donation from LNTCFS and additional donations from Jim’s Market, Noble Tractor, and the Kamloops Large Animal Veterinary Clinic.

The British Columbia Community Forest Association is holding it’s annual conference and AGM. It will be held June 11-13, 2015 in Clearwater, BC and is a great opportunity to learn more about community forests.
Topics covered include: Managing for Visuals, BCCFA Executive Director’s Update, Conflict Management, the Cheakamus Community Forest Carbon Project, and Methodologies for Calculating Long Term AAC.
The Guest Speaker at the Annual Banquet will be Steve Thomson, Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Operations. For details and registration, click here.
The LNTCFS has completed a Draft Management Plan (MP) #2 for the Community Forest. This plan is now available for review and comment.
