Trans Mountain Adult Education Bursaries

Starting in 2021 and continuing for 10 years until 2031, the Lower North Thompson Community Forest Society will be disbursing a total of $6,650 per year in adult education bursaries each year to successful adult (19+) applicants residing within the District of Barriere or Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) Area ‘O’ and who are enrolled or entering into a trades, technology or environmental program within 18 months of the application deadline.

This funding has been provided by Trans Mountain via the District of Barriere and TNRD Area ‘O’.

2025 Mill Construction Labourer – Temp/ Seasonal

Are you a local youth (15 – 30 years old) looking to gain milling and manufacturing work experience, and would love to participate in a variety of different tasks?

The Lower North Thompson Community Forest Society (LNTCFS) is looking for a temporary/seasonal Construction Labourer for our Mill Yard located in the Barriere Industrial Park to join our team for the 2025 summer.

When: Summer 2025 – depending on candidate availability (As early as May or June; no later than early July 2025)

Pay: 18$/hr – may be adjustable commensurate with experience

Applicants must meet the following funding criteria:

– Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada
– Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
– Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment*

*Must be 15 by the employment start date; may be older than 30 by the end of the term if they were 30 at the start.
**Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License

Forest Operations Map (FOM) 2094 – Invitation to Comment

In accordance with the Forest and Range Practices Act, the Lower North Thompson Community Forest Society (LNTCFS) invites the public to review its Forest Operations Map (FOM ID: 2094) in the Thompson Rivers Natural Resource District. The FOM describes areas proposed for Cutting Permit and Road Permit development within the next four years for the Community Forest (K1Z) tenure area. We welcome your comments and feedback during the review period starting January 21, 2025.

Please submit your comments by February 20, 2025.

2025 Community Forest Summer Student

Are you a local youth looking to gain forestry work experience and would love to participate in a variety of different field tasks?

The Lower North Thompson Community Forest Society (LNTCFS) is looking for up to TWO University Students to join our team for the 2024 summer.

When: Summer 2025 (May 5 to August 29 – 17 weeks)

Pay: 20-25$/hr commensurate with education and experience

**Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License

  • $ 30,000 has been allocated to Barriere Secondary School (BSS) 2020 Graduates for student awards (scholarships and/or bursaries).  As with previous years, these awards will be administered through BSS;
  • $ 80,000 has been allocated for distribution through our community grants program. Click here for grant application forms and guidelines. All applications received by December 31, 2019 will be reviewed by the LNTCFS board members who will award the money to successful applicants.

Notice of Annual General Meeting

Advance notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting of the Lower North Thompson Community Forest Society will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 7:00pm at the North Thompson Activity Centre located at 4936 Barriere Town Road (District of Barriere Building), at which time it is intended that Directors be elected for the ensuing year. As per the by-laws of the Society:

A member seeking to stand for election as a Director on the Board of the Society must meet the following criteria:

    1. A person must be a member in good standing.
    2. A person must submit a written nomination, signed by two other members in good standing.
    3. A person has not been convicted of an indictable criminal offence unless they have obtained a pardon.
    4. A person has agreed, in writing, to abide by the Constitution and Bylaws & Declaration of Commitment.
    5. A person has completed a written Personal Disclosure of potential conflict of interest, with explanation of how it may be a conflict.

Persons interested in standing for election shall submit a resume by October 18, 2019 to:
